BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - In December Lilyan King's knees started swelling and soon this toddler was no longer walking. After a series of tests doctors determined the energetic little girl had a cancerous tumor in her abdomen, and it was quickly spreading throughout her body.

Lilyan's mother Melissa King describes the moment when they received the bad news.

"We immediately burst into tears when they told us that and she looks over at us and she says 'Mommy, Mommy, why are you crying?' and I said 'Well because we're sad that you're sick,' and she said 'I'm not sick I'm great,'" says Melissa.

A rigorous chemotherapy treatment is starting to show some positive results, but as Lilyan's mother Melissa points out, the family has a long road ahead of them as they head to Salt Lake for further treatment.

"Lilyan is amazing. She's always happy and she's full of life. I mean, obviously to ask her, she is not sick. She is perfectly great. She's happy. She was excited to come to Salt Lake. As soon as we drove into the town she saw the mountains and she said 'Mommy I love this place,'" says Melissa.

The King family will have to stay in Salt Lake City for the next few months as Lilyan undergoes bone marrow transplants. The family is hoping for the best and drawing on Lilyan's vivacious spirit to get them through each day.

For all the support the community has given her, Lilyan says "Thank you."

The King family has received over $2000 from the community, but they are hoping to raise another $8000.

Joe Kimmel, a family friend and artist, will be holding a silent auction for the family on Friday night from 7-10 p.m. at the Cornerstone Gallery in Nampa.

Music will also be provided by Reptile Rumble, Jeremy Coverdale and Mount Joy.
